Portland, Crater Lake, Bend and other strange places in Oregon

Ready to go! Oregon this time!

Worst time to leave Bay Area is 4pm and that is exactly what we did.

So it only took us 3 hours to get to Benicia (20mph)
Latitude: 38° 5' 12.77" N
Longitude: 122° 6' 39.33" W

And another 5 hours to get to Medford, OR.
To our surprise Motel 6 at Medford South was fully booked. The lady offered us one last room that was not actually a room and did not have a heater. So we decided to try Rogue Valley Inn and that was a mistake. The room was fairly expensive (for Medford) $70 and the hotel should have been renovated a long time ago.

Buttercloud Bakery & Cafe is my favorite place for breakfast!
Latitude: 42° 19' 51.264" N
Longitude: 122° 51' 57.198" W

The cinnamon bun is just perfect.

Their signature buttermilk biscuit is so delicious.

A walking distance from Buttercloud Bakery one can find Great Harvest bakery that has the best bread in Medford.

A small house for rent in Medford.

On the way to Crater Lake.

A beautiful lava formation on the way to Crater Lake.

Longitude: 122° 9' 13.48" W

The snow level at Crater Lake was impressive.
Latitude: 42° 54' 39.558" N
Longitude: 122° 8' 50.856" W

At 2K feet, Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the US.

Lost Creek Reservoir.

I love Portland.
With it is big city look and small town feel.

We decided to see the sunset at Mt. Tabor, Portland, OR.
But all we saw was a statue of Lenin.

Portland at night.

Voodoo Doughnuts, Southwest 3rd Avenue, Portland, OR are truly unique. They are open 24/7 and there is always a line there. They even have vegan doughnuts.

But the best food at Portland is street food.
$6 can get you this delicious Hungarian sandwich.
Latitude: 45° 31' 14.448" N
Longitude: 122° 40' 34.278" W

Next to Voodoo Doughnut one can find the best night pizza at Portland, Via Tribunali.
Don;t forget to ask about $5 special happy hour after 10pm.

Saturday & Sunday market also has some street food.
My favorite is a Polish stand that serves authentic Polish food.
Latitude: 45° 31' 19.86" N
Longitude: 122° 40' 11.436" W

Whole wheat elephant tongues are delicious.

A liberal city after all.

An art exhibition.

The best ever matcha latte, milkshake, cake and pretty much best matcha anything.

Multnomah County Central Library.

And more street food.

Powells Bookstore is definitely a landmark. The place is so huge that it will probably take a day to explore it.

The best view of Portland!
Latitude: 45° 31' 23.13" N
Longitude: 122° 41' 35.67" W

On the way to Mt. Hood.

Unfortunately, we did not get to see the  mountain because it suddenly started raining and the skies became cloudy.

A modern looking church.
Latitude: 44° 46' 0.432" N
Longitude: 121° 16' 53.88" W

And finally we have arrived to Bend. A surprisingly big city located in the middle of nowhere 3 hours away from Portland.
Rat Hole is a must to visit place. It just opened 6 months ago. The place is a little expensive but has great beer and good food. I would not recommend the desert though.

We loved our hotel, Cascade Lodge, at Bend.
Latitude: 44° 2' 44.724" N
Longitude: 121° 18' 3.366" W

Driving to Klamath Lake.

And the lake...

Back to lovely California. Mt. Shasta in all its beauty.

Weed, is just a city in California.

We were really hungry by the time we got to Davis. So we decided to try The Dumpling House (one of the few places open on Easter). We loved it!

Still so many things to see in or around Portland.
  1. Japanese gardens
  2. Pittock mansion
  3. Mt. Hood + Timberline Lodge
  4. OMSI Submarine
  5. Multnomah Falls / Vista House
  6. Astoria
  7. Mount Saint Helens
  8. Calamity Janes
  9. Grants Pass (bear statues)
  10. Astoria, OR
  11. Drive-thru tree (CA)

We are definitely coming back some day.
